About

Our Story:

Who We Are:

Riinu Studio is more than just a design studio; we're committed to sustainability and advocates for a circular economy. Founded and operated by Ash S Logan, we're proud to be an independent, queer woman-owned venture committed to transforming overlooked materials into new treasures with a rich narrative. Our mission is clear: divert waste from landfills, redefine waste as a valuable resource, and contribute to a more sustainable future.

Where Are We?

Nestled on the stunning West Coast of Canada, we find ourselves privileged guests on the ancestral and unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, also known as Vancouver BC.

What We Do?

At Riinu Studio, we embrace a slow design ethos, crafting each piece with intention and care. Our production process primarily revolves bespoke creations with occasional small batch productions. We meticulously source materials of limited availability, ensuring many of our creations are either one-of-a-kind or part of a select few. Textiles are curated from various local outlets, including dedicated deadstock resellers, thrift stores, and contributions from the film and television industry.

Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our products; it's a mindset we aim to instill in our customers. Small scale production and bespoke products not only reduces overproduction but also encourages a thoughtful, deliberate approach to consumption.

How We Do It?

From initial design sketches to the final stitch, every aspect of our process is meticulously executed in-house. We treat each product individually to prevent as much waste as possible. Despite our best efforts, some waste is inevitable, but nothing goes to waste in our studio; every scrap is cherished and earmarked for future projects. Our commitment to resourcefulness drives us to constantly innovate and find new uses for materials that might otherwise be discarded.

Here's a video short showing a little bit of the process:

Back Story:

Inspired by the Fibershed concept of regional textile systems, our brand seeks to redefine the narrative surrounding textile production. While our approach may differ from the traditional Fibershed model, our commitment to utilizing local materials and reducing waste remains steadfast. We recognize the global impact of the textile industry and its disproportionate burden on communities in the Global South. Through our practices, we strive to mitigate this impact, one stitch at a time. Our goal is not only to create beautiful products but also to shed light on the complexities of the fashion industry and inspire meaningful change.

Future Goals:

As we continue to grow, our vision expands beyond our current capabilities. Here are some initiatives we hope to implement:

  • Develop educational how-to videos to empower our community.
  • Collaborate with other designers and artists in our local community.
  • Foster local talent by hiring women from the community for production roles.
  • Explore innovative ways to repurpose scraps that are unusable in our products lines like cushion stuffing.

Together, we're building a future where sustainability and style coexist harmoniously. Join us on this journey toward a more conscious, compassionate world.
